This is an early weigh-in of interest for gathering old drummers from John Jay to pick up the sticks again, and record whatever happens when the party breaks out. The best window for Dan Jeter to help with the drum equipment (and bandhall setting?!) is mid-June to early July . (ROAD TRIP!!) I'll gather the audio and video recording gear for wherever something happens. And I'll help with logistics if there's a road trip to Edinburgh (burg?). If you are: a John Jay Drummer, related to a John Jay Drummer, married to a John Jay Drummer (sorry about that - except Hal, of course), know any John Jay Drum Cadences, are a Drummer of any origin, or in any way are possibly able to forward this to one; let me know what you think. Rick Moyer '74 (210) 653-5753 Return to the top JOHN JAY H.S. 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION January 2008 - May 2008 Updated info will be available as the details develop. Here is the info we have so far... JJHS 40th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION Mr. Calvin Buckholtz, the Student Council sponsor and a science teacher who has been at JJHS since the 1970's, is organizing a year-long celebration of the school's 40th anniversary. He has held a meeting at Jay, and sent this breakdown of their early plans... JJHS: FABULOUS AT FORTY May 29, 2007: The first organizational meeting to plan for next year’s celebration of John Jay High School’s 40th anniversary was held in the cafeteria at 2:00PM. Basic Premises: * The celebration will occur all year long with a culminating event in early May 2008. * We want to recognize the major events and contributions of alumni throughout the 40 year history. * We want this event to be a learning experience for our current Jay students, so that they learn about the historical period at the start of Jay and the impact of its many contributions to our community. Calvin Buchholtz, the Student Council sponsor, presented a flow chart of the various campus groups and stakeholders and their potential involvement in the celebration. I. Alumni Involvement Individual accomplishments- Sports, Business, Medical field, Teachers, Pillars of Northside ISD, etc. Scholarship recipients- Where are they now? How were their lives impacted at John Jay HS? Associated Reunions- This presents an opportunity for class/club/sports/band reunions II. Community Involvement * PTSA (Parent/Teachers/Studnts Association)- * Recognize past presidents * An opportunity for increased membership/participation * At beginning of school year/PREP days ask students if their parents went to Jay * Many family ties-still here III. Campus Involvement * Website-Ron Gray (Also possibly set up a social networking site? My space, etc.) * Campus clubs and organizations- Recognize past presidents of clubs * Take a special occasion/ a season/ or a game to recognize alumni * WJEN (the in-house TV system at the school) -do weekly blurbs about what life was like in 1967 * Have a parade!!!! Close Marbach. Invite the elementary and middle schools. Have each club do a float! * Plan an event with all clubs participating in food booths/ a la Mustang Round Up to honor alumni * Have the whole school-various areas set up to "walk through Jay’s history * Have a "Buy a brick" campaign to brick in the library courtyard Return to the top 1974 1974-1975 WE'RE TURNING 50!
